Jacques Cousteau Park -
Belo Horizonte

Created in 1971 and implemented in 1999, the Jacques Cousteau Municipal Park occupies an approximate area of 335 thousand square meters. This park is an incredible example of how nature can be cared for and restored. Originally the space functioned as a garbage dump for the city, but it was transformed into a vegetable garden for the production of tree seedlings and ornamental plants. Nowadays it is a beautiful park full of nature.

The site has springs and perennial waterways. The park also offers toys for children, living areas, an open-air gym and a huge area of dense forest with ecological trails.

The living area has extensive lawns for picnics, as well as very beautiful and well-kept gardens, with several different species of flowers and trees.

Pampas grass, for example, is an attractive ornamental plant, widely used in parks and outside areas. This park takes care of and distributes plants throughout the entire city.

Most of the park, however, is made up of dense forest. It is great for ecological trails, both on foot and by bike. The route has a multitude of trees, flowers and animals.

In the middle of the forest there are crossings with streams and water courses. The park guarantees protection to the springs present there.

The park also offers a butterfly breeding site. In the park the butterflies and birds feel protected and at ease.
